Last Friday, on March 10, we gathered for a special event organised by The Gender Studies Platform at ICUB.
We were pleased to have this chance to discover gendered perspectives in many areas of study and research—with fresh, thought-provoking, highly relevant results and analyses related to gender (in)equality on many fronts.
Our keynote speakers were Barbara Risman, Distinguished Professor of Sociology at University of Illinois Chicago, USA, and editor-in-chief of the Gender & Society Journal, who presented the current status of research in gender studies, as well as her framework of gender as a social structure; and Jeff Hearn, Professor Emeritus at the Hanken School of Economics, Finland, who argued for the importance of focusing on men and masculinities when thinking about gender justice.
Most of our attendees were from the University of Bucharest, with presentations from 6 different faculties and 3 doctoral schools. We also had presentations from the Babeș-Bolyai University in Cluj-Napoca and the Maritime University of Constanța.
International contributions were offered by presenters from research and higher education institutions in France, Indonesia, India, the United Kingdom, and Norway.
